The rapid spread of the virus that leads to COVID-19 has sent shockwaves across all aspects of human life in Canada and across the world, and many people are unsure how to effectively deal with this pandemic. This article will provide some background on the virus, as well as some tips for households to help cope with the daily stresses of this uncertain time.
COVID-19 is a type of coronavirus, more specifically it is a newer strain which is known to cause serious illness. It can be particularly dangerous for people with underlying illnesses, or previously diagnosed secondary conditions such as diabetes. At this time, there is no vaccine or cure for the disease. Researchers are actively looking for treatment and prevention options.
This coronavirus is highly contagious and can survive on certain surfaces for up to three days. It is recommended that you clean surfaces such as doorknobs, toilets etc. as often as possible to prevent the possible spread of the virus.
Other measures you should take to prevent spreading/contracting this horrible virus are; avoiding contact with people who are sick or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms (practice social distancing), avoid touching your mouth and face if you haven’t washed your hands recently, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and of course wash your hands as frequently as possible, especially if you are out and about.
We will continue to follow this disease at it develops, and we will provide updates on possible treatments or vaccine developments. In the meantime, familiarize yourself further with this virus and take care of yourself and loved ones.
